got hunger? eat our dust.

today was the walk for hunger...

it all started with a plan. now, this year marked my 4th walk for hunger, and i have certain rituals that have developed through experience and pain. the plan was to get up early and get a move on the crowds (or heats as we call them in the competitive charity walking circles). suz and i decided that i had to be at her house by 6:30 am. all in the name of charity, right?

well, many of you know about my lust for sleep. i could stay in bed half the day if i was allowed to. with that in mind, realize how hard it was for me (aka philanthropic of me) to drag my sleepy ass out of bed that early on a sunday morning. it was dreadfully painful actually. i ended up waking up at 6:30 and getting to suz's by about 7:15. the walk went really well. i can barely walk already because of my tired muscles, swollen knee, and stiff lower back, but at least the hungry will be full.

highlights of this year's walk:
-suz getting to see me get angry at 7:30 in the morning when the bagel guy helped someone before us who's turn it cleary was not.
-suz yelling "we like meat" to some vegetarian awareness group that kept soliciting us with posters
-our making up a new system of walking speeds where we made ourselves walk at a 9.5 for the last two miles (picture flailing arms and cartoon animated legs like the roadrunner)
-suz telling me that if i couldn't keep up that i could go at my own pace (meaning she'd leave me behind). did i mention we were competitive??
-me telling suz to shut up and that we could talk later because we were in the home stretch and didn't have time to talk
-our sprinting across the finish line in order to make the light at the crosswalk
-us walking 20 miles in under 4 hours. we beat last year's time by about a half hour.

we almost had t-shirts made this year that would've exposed our plan to out-walk the other participants and probably pissed a few off. we decided we are already the bitches of the walk that go out of our way to pass people, so we might as well just advertise it.

i did end up making it into the heart and sole walkers circle again though, so i am at least proud of that. that means i raised $500 for the walk. go me. suz did awesome as well with a large anonymous donation the day before the race! :)

some pics thanks to tim

just to show you how beat i am this year, it is now 8:15 and i am in bed.
