complete and utter chaos
why, you ask? what could cause such turmoil on what would seem like an average thursday? well, i'll tell ya...
without warning, every coffee machine in my building is out of order. to make matters worse, we use the hot water nozzle on the coffee machines to make tea and hot chocolate and other necessary beverages. oh, and it isn't just the coffee machine in our 'interaction area'... it's the other one on our floor, the other floors and the ones in the cafeteria. i've been told that this might be a sign of the apocalypse.
lucky for me, i brewed some of my new godiva creme brulee coffee at home this morning, so i got my caffeine fix (at least for a little while). however, the other poor souls in my department are jonesing right now. my new supervisor told me that he thinks he might just pass out soon if he doesn't have some coffee. i can completely understand where he's coming from! i mean, we're coders (aka geeks). we need the caffeine to make our keyboard-shortcut-itchy little fingers move as fast as they can. faster typing = faster coding = quickly built applications. so, with all that in mind, i urge you to picture what the broken coffee machines are doing to the moral of this place today. people standing near the coffee machines with ceramic coffee cups full of cold water, gazing intently at the machine hoping for some signal that it has miraculously been brought back from its untimely death. at this point, i don't even want to walk by the coffee machine for fear that i might find a coworker eagerly, yet absolutely pathetically, licking the once used coffee urn in a feeble attempt at getting that one taste they so crave.
lucky for my coworkers, i DID have my coffee this morning, therefore my brain IS working (well, that's always debateable, but bear with me for the sake of the story). i suggested that they take a little excursion to one of the other buildings to see if their coffee machines were working. i also suggested that they get creative and use some hot water from the microwave and poor it through a filter right into their cup. they didn't seem to like that idea. in fact, i'm pretty sure they weren't even following the whole concept (lack of caffeine and all). i'll have to let you know if they struck that wonderful brown liquid that makes the world go round (no, not oil... coffee!!) on their excursion.
