i just had the funniest idea...
this morning, two of my co-workers and i were in the cafeteria at work having some coffee. our usual chats always turn to kids, family life, daycare... most of which i am highly uninterested in being that i am single, live in the city and do not have any kids (or pets for that matter). today though, we somehow got on the subject of life insurance and how much coverage an infant would need. a rather gruesome topic to discuss, but it led to the cost of funerals and what we'd want to have done when we pass on.
the girls were telling me that an average funeral costs about 5 - 10K these days. i cannot imagine making a loved one pay for that for me after i've gone. that's just silly. so, i asked how much it cost to be burned. i was corrected and told that 'cremation' still costs a bit because you have to buy the box you are burned in, rent a casket if you want to have a ceremony so that people can pay their respects to your open casket, and then you have to buy an urn to be put in. one of my coworkers mentioned that people can be made into diamonds. i had never heard that before, but it sounds kind of nice. if i was married and my husband died before me, it might be nice to have his whole body compacted into a little gem that i could keep on my person in some form. it would be like he was with me all the time. squished as his new accomodations might be.
it was then though, that i came up with a brilliant plan. i could be cremated, and divided up into many little piles. each pile could then be put into its own teabag. then, all the teabags could be dumped into boston harbor. anyways, that just made me laugh, so i thought i would share it.
