feels like i am home again
as a child of divorce, i have more than one home. i have my home: boston, i have my mom's home: burbs of boston, and i have my dad's home: houston. that's where i am now - houston. surprisingly enough, this feels more like home a lot of times than the others. i mean, to feel so comfy in a house that you didn't grow up in and a house that you have never had your own room in is pretty nice i think. well, i DO stay in the same guest room when i am here each time... perhaps i will try one of the others next time.
i am in houston to send one of my brothers off to the navy in style. he is really excited about it all, i can tell. to be honest, as the big sis, i am a little worried. comes with the territory of armed forces i guess though.
i flew down here with my real brother yesterday. he and i realized that we haven't flown anywhere together since our "Last Family Trip" in 1988. weird, eh? that trip was the trip that we all took as a family before my parents got a divorce. classic destination = disney world. made the prospect of a divorce seem not so bad. anyways, so i am on a sort of recovery mission with the little bro. i am talking to him a lot more than usual and observing his reactions. a little frustrating when he has a tantrum from the weed withdrawal of the past 24 hours, but i am dealing with it. found out some more details about my mom from him too. i'll share them another time.
i found out that my other brother down here (i know, bear with me - it gets confusing) is a mess and his wife thinks i am "snotty". well, miss i-think-she's-snotty, at least i 1.) don't paint on my upper lip 2.) am not the same age as my husband's mom (if i had one, that is) 3.) don't beat up my husband and 4.) know how to handle my liquor (most of the time at least). i'll take snotty. that is the least of my problems, i think. besides, i've only met her once and was too distracted by her non-existent upper lip and the big bright pink lipstick on her face to mask the fact that her face was so old and abstract. god, i AM snotty, aren't i?!?
in other news, my family has transformed into a small motorcycle gang. we went to dinner on 4 bikes (me on the back of one if you were wondering). it was pretty funny to look back and see us all in pack formation. i learned some of the hand signals even. never would've envisioned this five years ago.
oh, and want to wish R luck in his midterms. :) you go with your bad self.
P.S. go Stros! (astros... when in rome)
