oh what a night!

it's no big news that i don't follow sports. i've had times in my life when i was more into baseball than others, but really it was only me taking an interest in something for someone else's benefit. getting to share a hobby with someone. right now, i'm in a period of my life when i could give a crap what's going on with the red sox. (i can feel Nik's disapproving look all the way from Cali as she's reading this... but it's true). with that confession of being a non-fan right now, wouldn't you know that i would meet coco crisp. that's just the way life goes....
here's how it happened....

leading up to the night:
saturday was a busy day. my mom came into the city to have lunch with me and get her first manicure ever (shocking, i know.... we are complete opposites in that respect. i am all about girly stuff sometimes and she's just not). she really enjoyed the manicure, i think. else, she just pretended to in order to make me happy. whatever the case, i had fun. we did a little shopping and walked around back bay and before i knew it, it was 5 o'clock. i was supposed to be meeting my cousin and some of her friends in fanuel hall for dinner/drinks at 6pm to kick off her bachelorette party (her second, mind you). i hustled back to my apartment, loaded my mom's car up with her old bike (thanks, N for attempting a tune-up!) and some trash bags full of clothes for the salvation army. i then waved a quick goodbye, hopped in the shower and got ready as fast as i could. of course, i was still late. my cousin has come to expect this of me though. i think that's probably why she told me that i could come at 5 if i wanted.... but i got there at 6:45ish instead. oops.
now, i have to say that i seriously just wasn't up for a night out after walking around all day. besides the fact, that i barely go out to the bars these days. but, because this was for my beloved cousin and it's a one-time thing (well, technically two if you count the weekend away in NH we had in May), i decided to flip the switch in my brain and go into the night whole-heartedly. i realize now that might have been a poor decision.
all that know me, know that when i go out and really want to go out, i get all gussied up. since i was going into the night full-force, this was no exception. i wore this cute little top i have from victoria's secret (so, ok it's technically lingerie, but whatever) and one of my favorite pairs of jeans. couple that with some HIGH heels (i towered over the other girls... in fact, i may have looked a little freakish) and some makeup and you have a jen that is ready for a fun night out with the girls.

the night out:
i met the girls at the hard rock cafe (formerly The Rack) for some dinner and drinks. i had a margarita (yum!). then, we headed over to improv asylum in the north end to catch the 8 o'clock show. it was hilarious. you're pretty much sitting on the stage with the actors and get to drink beer out of your own personal bucket of coronas while you laugh your ass off. i had two coronas. then, we were in the mood to get our dance on, so we ended up at The Place over in the financial district. when we first got there it was a little dead. however, the song that was on when we walked in the door was michael jackson's thriller, so i think we knew it would be a good night. i ordered a red bull & vodka (in hindsight, this was a poor choice). we danced, we sang, we laughed. i can vividly remember mimicking the moulan rouge video while singing to my cousin. that was early in the night. over the course of our time at the bar, i must have ordered at least 5 red bull & vodkas. plus, one of the girls handed me a michelob light or something, so i had that too. some scenes from the dance floor: my cousin asking me if i pole danced; me giving my cousin a lap dance; the bouncer and one of the waitresses standing on top of a speaker to watch me dance; feigning a feeling of faint every time beckham was up on the screen (the soccer game was on)... hand patting my chest, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, etc....; some cops outside the window of the bar waving their handcuffs at us (in the playful way... not in the way that meant i was about to be locked up). all in all, a fun and crazy time.
oh, right, the point i was trying to get to..... coco crisp. towards the end of the night, we moved to another section of the bar. the girls told me that coco crisp was in the group of people near us. deciding that i would like to be a good cousin for the night (as if giving a lap dance to her wasn't enough!), i walked over to the guy that the girls pointed out and asked if he might pose for a photo with us. apparently, he's all hollywood now. he told me that he already told someone else 'No', so he had to say 'No' to me as well. i said ok and told him that i understood. and i did. but it still would've been cool to have a photo memento for my cuz. in fact, now that i think of it, the last real bachelorette party i went to (i think i was 20... used someone else's passport to get in... the funny part was that she was with me and used her license) i met pedro martinez and we all got a photo taken with him. of course, that was before the world series and way before pedro elicited as much attention as he does now. anyways, i can only imagine what i must have looked like to coco. i was pretty freakin drunk by then.

the aftermath:
one of the girls drove me home... i somehow managed to direct her to my house. i was supposed to be home for just a couple of minutes to finish packing a bag and then jump in a cab to my man's place, but i ended up ill and sleeping with the porcelain buddha instead. i woke up at 4:30am and made my way to bed. i finally surfaced around 4pm on sunday to get myself some food. i have not been that hung-over in a LONG time, and to be honest, i didn't miss it one bit.
i haven't heard my cousin's account of the story yet. i imagine there are at least a few differences. i can't wait to hear them and laugh at myself some more. oh, and i do recall having a photo taken of my attempted lap-dance. that ought to be amusing/embarrassing/flame-worthy.

Uh, yeah. Disapproving is one word. Not so impressed with Crisp, though. This post made me really miss Boston. I hate you.

how this post could possibly make you miss anything but a day of sobriety is beyond me. i might be biased though. my stomach turns just thinking of the immense amount of alcohol consumed and the time spent on the cold tile floor in my bathroom.
oh, and i'll take that 'i hate you' as code for 'i love you' ;)

Well Cuz, I certainly hadn't heard what happened to you after you were dropped off...sorry about that! Your account of the events is pretty accurate. However, I heard several people tried to pick you up as you stumbled (and I do mean stumbled) your way back to the car. Thanks for coming out and sharing in my "last night out." FYI you were the youngest of us by far and although we may have known who Coco was, we had no clue who sang the latest hip hop and rap songs. I guess this is why I am about to become an old married woman. I love you and thanks again for the free lap dance, mine was much better than the one Carl got at his bachelor party ;)

See you Friday!

P.S. Happy 1 day early Birthday!

first, let me start with cuz's comment... i am utterly baffled. people were trying to pick me up? i'm not sure if you mean hitting on me or literally help me on my way. i have a feeling it was the latter of those two. gosh, what an embarrassing night! fun, though.
second, my dear ljb in nyc... thanks! you're a doll! can't wait to see you next month.
