a new york weekend - part I
R's 'baby mamma' S and i went to NYC this weekend to visit our friends. i have been contemplating a move to the city for a while now, and this trip just pushed me closer to acting on it.
S and i were lucky enough to get a ride to the city with another friend. we are both minor control freaks, so we generally plan every detail of things using lists, schedules, etc... (did i say minor?). this weekend, we decided to do the impossible: not plan anything. we hadn't even figured out how or when we were getting home on sunday. pretty daring for us. in a funny way, we felt like rebels.
we started out the trip getting to L's house at about midnight on friday. L went to bed with her hubby just after i warned her that i probably won't speak for the first hour that i am awake. i think this fact scared her a little. some people just need a few extra minutes in the morning to become their extrovert self. i am an introvert pre-caffeination.
our other NY friend, N, wakes up at 5:30 without an alarm on a saturday morning (scary, isn't it?). so, N has already run multiple impressive errands before i have said one word. i proceed to get up and get dressed to grab a bite to eat with the girls at Jackson Hole (the place suddenly holds a special place in my heart and S's after this trip). from there we eat and try to draw similarities between the 4 of us and the ladies from Sex and the City, only leading to a debate on who would be Miranda (apparently, no one wants to be Miranda). i don't have to tell you who i ended up being. :)
a starbucks on every corner and a sparkle in my eye. S and i were constantly hungry on this trip. after breakfast (we didn't eat that much), we went to starbucks where we got coffees and one of the freshest sandwiches i've ever had. S and i were still talking about the sandwich last night.
we headed back to the upper west side apt to get ready and go shopping. my kind of day. :)
i intentionally did not pack shoes to wear on saturday night so that i would have to buy myself a pair. wonderful idea until it led us in shoe store after shoe store, looking for a pair of shoes for my carni-toed feet. at last, i found not one, but two lovely pairs of shoes. 52 isn't such a bad number, is it?
to be continued...
