sunday bloody sunday
as i stated in my last post, i only got 3 hours of sleep before trekking out to get a pedicure with my gal pal laura... what i didn't say was that i was so drunk the night before that i somehow managed to set my alarm clock wrong, and by sheer luck opened one heavy lid to see that it was already 30 minutes before our appointment.
on any other day, i would've just rolled out of bed, threw on a bed-head covering red sox cap, and stumbled my smelly self to the salon. however, two things flashed in my mind: 1) we are supposed to have brunch after this. i cannot go into an establishment in my current state. i am way below sub-par appearance this morning. 2) this is for laura. she doesn't deserve to have our supposed-to-be-fun day at the spa ruined by my hangover.
now, it is bad enough that laura was so apologetic when scheduling the appointments because she knew i generally am not up by 10, but i knew i could not disappoint her any further by being late.
i took a very fast 'please-wake-me-up' shower and threw on clothes while my body was still soaked. i did manage to throw on makeup and earrings to disguise my pitiful under-eye dark smudges and look a little more put together.
making my way to the salon, i called suz to see if she was still ok to drive me to an appointment at 11. (busy morning) suz had volunteered to drive me as we were stumbling through the streets of back bay in the morning light. she had totally forgotten about that offer by now. she tells me she is not sure she can drive but would share a cab with me. the stress of how i am going to get to my appointment jolts me a little further into reality.
the pedicure was probably one of the best i have ever had. it was an aromatherapy pedicure with tons of massaging the feet and calves. loved it. thanks laura, dear. laura and i even managed to figure out how i could get to my appointment. which, by the way, i had to be at by 11:30. the pedicure was an hour long, not leaving much time for a leisurely walk back to my house where I convinced suz to drive to. two blocks, i knew she could do it. from there, laura was going to drive. Laura and i walked out of the salon in those funny flip flops they provide and got quite a few funny stares. In my hungover state, I had forgotten to bring my own open-toed shoes with me, so laura decided to share some of the embarrassment with me as we walked down, of all places, newbury street. we had to cross a big grassy area too, where i cracked laura up by telling her that the things on our feet were all-terrain ped-flops.
why so many complications for a silly appointment you ask? i was having blood drawn, so i didn’t want to drive myself. i am prepared for the results to say i am an alcoholic. we barely got there in time, and after running around the hospital finally had completed our task.
we treated ourselves to brunch where we eyed some uber hot guys at another table. thought about sending over some bloody marys but the reality of our current states set in, so we settled for ogling them through the window as we left.
the three of us shopped around for a little while. laura is a princess through and through, so we went to one of her favs, burberry. burberry is in a temporary store for renovations to their usual home, so the current atmosphere of their store is something of a filene’s basement/warehouse sale. really very odd for such a high-end store. of course, this does relax suz and i into feeling like our hand won’t be chopped off if we dare to touch some of the clothes. suz spots an hilariously funny silver jacket that she must try on. the material was something from another world. its metallic shine alone was funny, but seeing suz attempt to move in its armor-like flexibililty made me almost pee my pants.
after shopping, we convinced laura to get into one of the taxi-like-carts that are pulled around by a guy on a bicycle out in front of the ritz. we said our goodbyes and watched her being peddled down the street back to her hotel. she just looked so prim and proper in the back of that little cart that again, suz and i were laughing. this time, so much that the valets at the ritz made fun of us for laughing at her. this only added to the comical situation making me have to lean up against a building for support.
suz and i sat at her place and downloaded details from the night before and the long day we had. all in all, a good time.

Prim and Proper??? I didn't know you were laughing at me when I was in the carriage!!! :-(
They are a great deal though, you pay what you think that it was worth. They work off of tips only. :-)
